Some of you dear readers are super-commenters. And for that you deserve all my bloggiest affections. And some of you are quiet little mice readers. And I adore you too, even in your silence.
But today, friends, I’m going to give you the chance to do more than add a little Thankful out there in the comment boxes. I’m going to make this post all about you. So, in order for this Thankful Tuesday (/election day) to inspire gratefulness in all of us, your job is to answer the following questions:
- Tell us one thing about your family that you’re feeling especially grateful for today.
- What is your favorite song that includes the word Thankful, Grateful, or Thank you? (If it’s a cheesy worship song, you lose points.)
- Who in your life has done something recently that deserves a thank-you note that you haven’t written yet because you’re a failure?
- What is your abstract Thankful of the day (ie, Love, fall, drinking hot chocolate and wearing a scarf, etc.)?
I’ll start:
1. I’ve spent the past weekend with my in-laws remembering my grandfather-in-law’s life. I’m thankful that after six years of marriage I can feel such a part of their lives that Chris’ family is my family too.
2. In the year 2001-02, the great Molly Strader and I lived together with one karaoke machine and one karaoke cd. The best song on that cd? “Thank You” by Dido. So, on sad or somewhat boring nights, we would sing it to each other. That’s how awesome our first year out of college was.
3. Sarah Grossman has been feeding our super cat Ezra for the past five days while we’ve been on the East coast. She’s a hero.
4. Actually getting to experience fall while we’ve been in Philly and Connecticut. Beautiful changing trees. A crispness in the air. Ahhhh.
1. My Dad is lending me his laptop for my trip to DC because mine is dying a slow, painful death. Well now it’s kind of happening at a rapid pace.
2. I can’t think of one. I’m grateful for the cello, though. I know that’s cheating.
3. My 3 friends who are willing to watch dance movies with me and eat pizza on my birthday.
4. I am going to DC this weekend to visit friends and work on our documentary project; and the woman in the rare books collection offered to come in, on her day off, to open up the room for us. She’s getting flowers.

1. I’m thankful for the way that my hub and my dad are both so open about communicating their love for people around them. I’m so impressed with how these two manly men leave sincere and sweet voicemails and share so openly what they feel and make the people around them feel valuable and understood and beautiful.
2. All I can think of is “Kind and Generous” by Natalie Merchant.
3. My mother-in-law gave us a gift to help prepare our nursery and is so always generous but is careful to respect boundaries at the same time.
4. My abstract thankful thought centers around the excitement of a future baby girl: ballet and soccer and chubby legs and cooking together and singing together and praying together and watching her play with our dog and watching her learn every little thing. It just seems like such a miracle and such an adventure right now.
Alright, I’ll bite. But, I’m afraid it says something icky about me if it bite on a post that says it’s “all about me.” What can I say? I’m vain.
1. I feel especially grateful that I genuinely enjoy the company of my husband and my girls. That they are thoughtful and funny and enjoy my company as well.
2. I may lose points, but Nicole Nordeman’s, “Gratitude” is one of my most favorite songs ever. Probably because it challenges us to thank God in EVERY circumstance, and I need to be reminded of that constantly.
3. A friend of ours in giving us their car. Their car! Giving it to us! Is it bad form to hand them a thank you note as they hand us the keys? I desperately do not want to be a failure on this one!
4. I am thankful for an amazing thrift store in my little town where I snatched up a beautiful little side table and cute dining chair for less than $15 yesterday. Oh! And I’m thankful that a student named Roland, who Loren has been praying for for 2 years is coming to club because a student named Colt met Christ at YL Camp this past summer. Yay God!
1. My parents are really liberal with the Facebook “Like” button, which has me seeing them as real positive people.

3. One of my colleagues had me over for Easter brunch when I was new to town, and for lame-to-nonexistent reasons, I never sent that Thank You card. I feel bad about it.
4. “The bigger love of the family.”
Lex, of course your number 4 would quote Full House. That’s about as abstract as Thankful Tuesday ever gets…
1. I’m thankful that, 14 months after surgery and 10 months after radiation, my husband is cancer-free.
2. The first song to come to mind was “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come” and now I have it stuck in my head.
3. Some close friends of mine recently invited me to be a part of their wedding by playing a piano accompaniment for a piece. They didn’t need to-they had others who probably could have done better-but they wanted to include me, and I appreciated that. Now that they’re back from their honeymoon, I’m going to send a thank you card.
4. I’m thankful that I’ll (hopefully!) be done with my dissertation within the next two months. And I’m thankful for a husband who knows just what song to play to get me out of my bad mood.

I am thankful for being loved so well by my husband’s grandmother who just died. She really believed and often told me that I am a wonderful mother and patient/good wife.
“Thank you, thank you, thank God for you the wind beneath my wings” so genuine!
can’t think of anyone which is probobly worse than thinking of someone and not sending it.
