Ear Infection Friday

In case you didn’t know, it is possible to be a 31 year old mother and get an ear infection. In fact, it’s possible that your sinus infection might turn out to be the first ear infection of your life. And it’s possible that you may have ear infections in both ears at once and wake your husband up crying in the bathroom at 4 in the morning. (I’m weak. What can I say?)

They say that breastfeeding a baby can prevent ear infections, but I think that’s only for the baby, not the mother. So, tonight I am popping Amoxicillin and Tylenol and praying that I’m actually able to sleep when I lay my head down. I’m thinking that this must be some form preparation for Baby #2, who will need my tender love and compassion when he cries and pulls his ears. I promise, here and now, I will have compassion on that child.

Ear Infections = Worst Thing Ever.

That said, I don’t have anything to write tonight. So instead I’ll send you to a few interesting blogs I read this week:

Emerging Mummy: “In which I am a biblical woman” Great stuff.

Elizabeth Esther: “Books for your spiritual journey (my top 5 picks from 2010)” It includes Mary Karr’s Lit, which is probably my favorite read of 2010. I haven’t read the others but I’m intrigued.

Leslie Miles: “If We Weren’t Here, They’d Still Be” This is one of my husband’s favorite style blogs. He showed me this post yesterday when I was feeling sorry for myself. Seriously, some of the most incredible photos of animals I’ve ever seen. You have to look at it. Please. Trust. Me.

That’s all I have to share. (I haven’t read much online this week.) And I’m feeling pathetic and need to lie down. If you’ve learned anything from this blog post, let it be this: Please feel very, very sorry for the children around you who have ear infections. They mean it when they cry.

Micha, if this makes you feel better, my boyfriend gave me the flu and then promptly flew off to Taos to ski for a week (in three years I have never seen him sick-not a sniffle). I fell down some stairs and then cried on my cat. She head butts me as a way of showing her concern. (I think she is saying: wake up; are you dead? I need food.)
Ear infections are suck city. It’s okay to take care of yourself when you feel that badly and it does not mean that you’re pathetic. You do so many things. Make a list of all the things you have done in the last week despite being very pregnant and having a sinus infection turned into an ear infection.
This is my first day without a fever in…four days? I fell down a flight of stairs, and then I just got into bed. And then last night I ate half of a very small pizza, fed Aaron’s cats, and slept forever again. But I was weirdly proud about getting all that done.
It’s okay to not like being sick, and you are handling so many things right now. I’m watching bad movies at Aaron’s right now while drinking 87 liquids at once in order to move the humidifier into the bedroom (I need to build up my strength). Because every time I do one thing, I have to sit and rest, which then usually leads to sleep. Which makes me feel incredibly feeble. Being sick does not make you make you feeble!
I’m going to read all of your links. But that Tiger Mom was on the Colbert Report this week. I can’t remember which day and Aaron’s internet sort of works in spurts, but it was this week. She was trying to damage control in a logically impressive manner but she still frightens me. When Aaron’s internet is working better I can send a link.
    Feel better! xocaq

I know I had major ear infections when I was kid. Thankfully, I don’t remember it. They do NOT sound fun! Hope you are feeling better soon.

I loved EE’s list, mostly because I’d only heard of one book on it - Lit, of course. Need to write the others down and see if my library has any of them…
